Drought and Aflatoxin; What are you doing to prepare?

Drought-persists-across-US-Corn-BeltSo everyone out there who has been remotely paying attention to the  news knows there are going to be high fuel and food prices coming because of the drought and aflatoxin contamination.  My question is; what is everyone doing to prepare for the higher prices and possible shortages?

The mold, which thrived in the hot, dry weather that withered corn plants, can lead to the presence of aflatoxin, a carcinogen that is toxic to animals and humans at high levels. Grain elevators and processors are vigorously testing for aflatoxin this summer.

 

corndrought_0The issue is creating another headache for farmers grappling with the nation’s worst drought in decades. In some cases, grain elevators and processors such as Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) are rejecting farmers’ corn shipments.

  1. Stocking up on the foods that I eat. Stocking up on baking supplies, sugar and cooking oils especially. Vacuum packing meat.
